Russel Wright: Living with Good Design
February 8 - April 8, 2007

Organized by Arts Midwest and the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, Russel Wright: Living with Good Design explores the life and work of one of America's preeminent designers whose concepts for a casual style of living and modern design transformed the country following World War II.
Exhibition curator Robert Stearns has noted, “Wright was more than a designer concerned with trends and styles; he was committed to serving the public...His designs for domestic living were tools in his quest to simplify everyday living and to bring Americans closer to the world around them."
Wright's innovations in house wares, furniture, appliances, and fabrics made him a household name in the 1940s and '50s as American homemakers embraced his egalitarian philosophy that "good design is for everyone." The Newcomb Art Gallery exhibition showcases Wright's most celebrated designs to provide audiences with an understanding of how the designer continues to profoundly influence American lifestyles today.
